Veteran Struck Down in Prime of Life, Company & Driver Completely Uninsured

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- On Monday morning, March 19, 2007, 79 year old Norman Lynn was riding his bicycle on the sidewalk of US Highway 441 crossing 52nd Place S. in Lake Worth, when he was struck by a Mitsubishi truck operated by Petronilo Cobon-Sanchez; the truck was owned by Starlawn and Landscaping Services, Corp., Cobon-Sanchez’s employer.

As a result of this unfortunate auto accident, Mr. Lynn was knocked unconscious and immediately tramhawked to Delray Community Hospital. He sustained traumatic brain injuries along with a fractured eye socket, cheek bone and jaw. Mr. Lynn is now convalescing at a nearby rehabilitation facility.

“Both the Landscape Company and it’s driver where completely uninsured which is absurd,” said Guari. “I constantly educate consumers and advise them to protect themselves by purchasing Uninsured Motorists (UM) Insurance Coverage. Many injured consumers realize the importance of having UM Insurance all too late. It is estimated that one (1) in four (4) drivers on the road are uninsured or underinsured.”

The State of Florida does not require drivers to carry Bodily Injury (BI) automobile insurance. Therefore, the likelihood of being in an auto accident with someone who does not have BI coverage is substantial. Uninsured Motorists (UM) coverage provides protection to you, resident relatives and other passengers in your vehicle if you are involved in a motor vehicle crash with someone who does not have any or does not have enough BI coverage.

“This is such a tragic and needless accident. Mr. Lynn was wearing a helmet and lawfully crossing 52nd Place S. when he was hit by Starlawn’s vehicle. Most bicycle/motor vehicle crashes are caused by inattentive motorists to bicyclists who are actually “pedestrians” under Florida Law.

Mr. Lynn was an active senior who played tennis and was also an avid bicyclist. He is a United States Air Force Veteran who served in WWII. He is a father of three (3), a grandfather of five (5) and has been married to his wife for Sylvia for 57 years,” added Guari.

The Lynn family filed a suit on May 9, 2007 in the Circuit Court of the 15th Judicial Circuit for Palm Beach County, Florida.
