Did you know that the front seat may be safer than the backseat when it comes to a head-on crash?
Surprising — but true.
A study by the Insurance institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) shows rear-passengers may not have enough protection in a head-0n collision to prevent serious injuries or even death.
Advances in seat belt and airbag technologies have significantly improved safety for front seat passengers — but riding in the back– where some of that safety technology isn’t available — presents a greater risk
The Institute is now developing new crash testing, to demonstrate these new safety concerns within the next few years, officials hope to have a back-seat crash test, allowing buyers to compare new models.
The goal? To encourage automakers to make the necessary safety improvements without the need for Federal regulations.
