Erectile Dysfunction (ED) drugs, such as the prescription medications Viagra (Sildenafil Citrate) and Cialis (Tadalafil), are used to treat erectile dysfunction and high blood pressure in the lungs (pulmonary arterial hypertension).
Viagra, manufactured by Pfizer as the “Little Blue Pill”, has a history of alleged side effects including heart issues, stokes, and vision and hearing problems. A major new claim against the manufacturers of Viagra is that they failed to warn users of the potential development of melanoma, a common type of cancer, after taking the drug. A 2014 JAMA Internal Medicine investigation found that men who used the erection-enhancing drug sildenafil (Viagra) were 84 percent more likely to develop melanoma. Melanoma is the leading cause of death from skin disease.
Cialis, manufactured by Eli Lilly and Company, is also accused of failing to provide warnings about the significant risk of developing melanoma, an aggressive and potentially deadly form of skin cancer.
Both Viagra and Cialis are accused of defectively designing, inadequately testing, and improperly marketing, as patients and prescribing physicians were not properly informed that Viagra and Cialis use could cause or promote the growth of melanoma cancer cells.
