Over 18 Years of Helping Clients when they need It Most
Mesothelioma is an aggressive form of cancer affecting the membrane lining of the lungs and abdomen. Exposure to asbestos is the primary cause for mesothelioma. While many countries have banned asbestos, the United States has not. Asbestos is a toxic mineral used in building materials, insulation, automobile brakes and other products.
For many older workers, on-the-job exposure years ago, continues to cause serious diseases. Research has shown higher rates associated with certain industries including shipyard workers, U.S. Navy Veterans, and various tradesmen in the construction industry, paper mills, industrial plants, pipefitters and welders, boiler workers, maintenance workers, machinists and electricians.
These workers were often exposed to asbestos-containing insulation on steam pipes and boilers and other equipment. Years after their exposure, these workers developed asbestos-caused diseases such as asbestosis, a scarring of the lungs, lung cancer, and malignant mesothelioma, a fatal cancer of the lining of the lungs.
Additionally, many times these workers have unknowingly brought the asbestos dust home on their clothes thus exposing family members to this deadly dust. Asbestos exposure can also come from home repairs using joint compound and performing brake work.
According to the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization more than 30 Americans die every day from preventable, asbestos-caused diseases.
