Did you know that the act of getting to and from school has the greatest potential for danger than any other single act performed during the school day? Education is a powerful tool for changing behavior, improving safety skills and promoting responsibility of both adults and children
Safety Tips For Parents:
- Watch for children, slow down and be aware of school zones
- Reduce distractions by putting cell phones away
- Pay attention in school loading and unloading zones
- Use your mirrors and look around your vehicle before backing up
- Wear your seatbelt and make sure children are secured in age- and size-appropriate car seats
Safety Tips For Children:
- Plan a safe walking route to school or the bus stop, never talk to strangers
- Only cross the street at designated crosswalks and obey pedestrian safety rules
- Learn how to get on and off the school bus and how to ride while on the bus
- If you ride a bike, always wear a bicycle helmet and obey all traffic rules
- Do not play video games or text while walking to and from school
