Summer Months Driving Can Be Deadly for Teens

By: Scott Perry

We are now in the middle of summer which is prime time for A teen age boy behind the wheel texting and driving. The number of teenage related accidents and fatalities goes up during the summer. road trips and family vacations. Also, it is a time when more teenage drivers are on the road, as many are off from school. This increased amount of driving and increased amount of people on the road mean that you need to do a few things to help protect you and your family.

Especially before going on a family vacation/road trip make sure your vehicle is in prime working order before you leave. This means making sure your car does not have any oil or other fluid leaks and that your transmission is acting normally. Also, make sure your tires have plenty of tread on them and are filled with the proper amount of air. These small things may help prevent you from having a mechanical failure or a tire blowout which can cause you to be in an auto accident, especially at highway speeds. Another simple way to help prevent potential truck accidents is by giving your car, especially the windows, a wash before leaving on your trip – as being able to see clearly can help to avoid potential problems.

As far as teenage drivers, unfortunately the number of teenage related accidents and fatalities  (http://nj1015.com/summer-months-are-deadly-for-young-drivers-audio/)goes up during the summer.  The NHTSA (http://www.raisingarizonakids.com/2013/07/teen-driving-accidents-increase-in-the-summer-what-parents-can-do/) says the number of teenage related accidents goes up 44% due to the increased driving from not being in school and the decrease in parental supervision. It is very important that you explain to your teenage kids the importance of driving safely, such as not talking on the phone, not texting, not driving late at night, and especially not DRINKING and DRIVING.  An open line of communication with a teenager can go a long way for preventing unfortunate accidents.

If you, or a love one, have been hurt in a car accident, make sure to contact an attorney quickly so that your rights can be protected.
