Murray Guari Trial Attorneys Support Blinkers For Backpacks
West Palm Beach, FL – Murray Guari Trial Attorneys proudly sponsored the Teen Safe Driving Coalition and the Royal Palm Beach High School SADD Program’s Pedestrian Safety Program during the month of May.
Each year the Teen Safe Driving Coalition challenges high schools to create a project based on a safety theme like driving safety for pedestrians or drivers, or seatbelts, or different aspects of driving. This year’s program was Get to School Safe with Blinkers for Backpacks. The goal is to help make elementary school children more visible on their way to and from school.
As a sponsor, Murray Guari Trial Attorneys purchased rectangular safety LED flashlight reflectors with a hook that could be attached to a student’s backpack or bicycle. Royal Palm Beach High School SADD Program members visited Royal Palm Beach, H.L. Johnson, and Cypress Trails elementary schools on Monday, May 16 to distribute the blinking lights to students.
“We are very happy to sponsor the Blinkers For Backpacks program,” said attorney Scott Murray. “If we can help students do the one simple thing that they can do to significantly reduce their chances of being involved in a motor vehicle collision — BE VISIBLE — we are all in.”
According to the National Safety Council, more children between the ages 5-14 die as a result of being struck by a motor vehicle than from any other cause, natural or accidental. And, according to the U.S. Dept. of Transportation, studies have proven that the risk of being hit by a motorist is eight times lower when wearing a safety reflector.
The Teen Safe Driving Coalition was created when the Allstate Foundation joined with the National Safety Council (NSC) to zero in on the teen driving epidemic by forming coalitions in 10 states to address the issue. The 10 coalitions have a common goal: To establish a culture of safe teen driving based on proven principles of Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL).
Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) – Originally, the mission of the SADD chapter was to help young people say “No” to drinking and driving. Today, the mission has expanded. Students have told us that positive peer pressure, role modeling and environmental strategies can prevent other destructive decisions and set a healthier, safer course for their lives. And that is why SADD has become a peer-to-peer education, prevention, and activism organization dedicated to preventing destructive decisions, particularly underage drinking, other drug use, risky and impaired driving, teen violence, and teen suicide.
