The new Florida law (HB 225) requires children in motor vehicles to be restrained in federally approved car seats through the age of 5, up from the current state requirement of age 3. No longer will children up to 5 be allowed to be restrained using a seat belt. They will have to be restrained using booster seats.

The law, which is awaiting the Governor’s final approval, would go into effect January 1, 2015.
